Quality check
“Healthier, happier people perform better”, or “Healthier and happier people work better”, the claim chosen for WELL by the International Well Building Institute (IWBI), which manages the WELL certification at an international level. The WELL certification, launched in 2014, defines the conditions for “feeling good” in a building. The WELL protocol evaluates buildings in terms of comfort, sustainability and people’s well-being.
The WELL certification must be renewed every three years; it is therefore a tool to guarantee that the healthiness of the building is not only initial but lasts over time.
ANALYSIS FACTORS
The rating system is divided into 10 categories called “Concepts”, each of which is measured in a scientific way, thanks to performance and prescriptive indicators, which require specific design strategies and policies to be implemented.
The Concepts are:
- Air – promotes checks on the quality of the air inside the building, the use of non-toxic construction materials and particulate filters;
- Water – promotes checks on the quality of water intended for consumption by occupants;
- Nutrition – encourages “food awareness” by acting on the quality of the food offered within the structure, promoting the availability of fruit and vegetables;
- Light – rewards the adoption of strategies to improve the visual comfort of occupants by increasing the use of natural light;
- Movement – encourages the adoption of a more active life through layout strategies;
- Thermal comfort – promotes thermal comfort suitable for all occupants;
- Sound – stimulates the achievement of maximum acoustic comfort within environments;
- Materials – rewards the use of sustainable and recyclable materials, locally sourced and with low environmental emissions;
- Mind – promotes the link between nature and human beings and people’s awareness of their own state of health and well-being through the creation of adequate spaces dedicated to rest;
- Community – promotes maximum accessibility of the building and supports the lives of the occupants.
ASACERT
With twenty years of experience on the issues of sustainable design and certification, ASACERT is able to coordinate all the operations useful for the certification process from the pre-assessment phase to the coordination of the works between the client, the designers and all the stakeholders involved, up to registering the project to obtain certification and preparing documents useful for tenders.
