WORK DETAILS.
On behalf of the Agency for the holding of the XX Olympic Winter Games “Turin 2006”, ASACERT – QUALITALIA carried out the service of Verification and Validation of the final and executive project for the construction of the Media Olympic Villages in Turin.
The “Turin 2006” Olympic Villages project – designed by architect Benedetto Camerana – occupies an area of about 100,000 square meters, directly connected to the Lingotto via the Arch, an elevated pedestrian walkway symbolic of the Turin Olympic Games.
The project, which involved the complete renovation of the historic General Markets structure dating back to the 1930s, was carried out by a team of international professionals who kept the theme of sustainability, the integration of the structure with the landscape and the use of renewable energy and eco-friendly materials as the ideal focus; at the end of the Olympics, the Village was converted into a permanent residential complex.
SERVICE
In accordance with the contractual requirements, ASACERT – QUALITALIA has provided the service of Verification and Validation of the final and executive design at the end of the design activities; in fact, ASACERT – QUALITALIA has developed an inspection methodology that contracts the processing time and transforms the verification process from repeated to progressive, drastically reducing the number and extent of rework. The amount of work commissioned was €18,000,000.
The project verification process was divided into concatenated and consequential sub-processes that allowed the overall status of project compliance to be attested through a progressive refinement of controls. The auditor team of ASACERT – QUALITALIA conducted the verification service aimed at validating the final and executive projects by following the following procedure:
Formal verification of the project – Verification of the documentary set-up
The checks carried out in the first phase of the verification process were aimed at ascertaining the state of completeness of the overall project document set-up both on the front of the actual project documents and on the front of the technical, administrative and contractual documents underlying the design activity. The purpose of this audit was to provide a certain framework for subsequent inspections.
General project verification – Summary project verification
The assessments made at this stage were carried out to ascertain that the project as a whole possessed the minimum requirements of completeness, adequacy, clarity, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements in order to be considered validable, and that it did not present critical issues or problems of such magnitude as to make it unnecessary to continue with the verifications unless the design documentation was substantially revised.
Project merit verification – Analytical verification of the project
During the last stage of the service, ASACERT – QUALITALIA carried out a timely verification divided into two stages:
- Single-discipline verification: specialized control carried out by design discipline
- Interdisciplinary verification: checking the appropriateness and compatibility of different monodisciplinary parts of the project.
RESULT
ASACERT – QUALITALIA concluded the Verification process for the purpose of project validation by expressing a substantially positive opinion on both the final and executive designs with reference to the analysis of the documentation provided by the designer and the client.
