Torrazza logistics hub
DETAILS OF THE WORK
The company Engineering 2K S.p.a.-a leading company in Italy and Europe as a general contractor in the service provisioning sector, specializing in the architectural and structural design and construction of warehouses and logistics hubs-has entrusted ASACERT with the task of carrying out the service of technical control in progress e commissioning in the pipeline on the work carried out on behalf of a major player in online commerce.
The logistics hub, located along S.P. 90 for Verolengo in Torrazza, consists of a large warehouse-main structure developed on three floors of about 49,000 square meters-and a smaller office building of about 9,000 square meters; finally, the whole complex occupies an area of about 60,000 square meters.
SERVICE
The work carried out by ASACERT on the Torrazza logistics complex consists of two main services: in-process technical inspection and commissioning activities.
The in-progress technical inspection carried out by ASACERT’s Inspection Group, consisting of technical experts with many years of experience in inspections of the design and execution of residential, commercial and industrial construction works, aimed to verify the requirements of stability and mechanical strength of structural elements, durability, maintainability, useful life of waterproofing of roofing and flooring and interior cladding of buildings. Inspection activities were carried out through the timely execution of inspections, such as:
- The compliance of design documentation with the requirements of applicable regulations and good design practice specifications;
- Compliance of the finished works with the requirements of the project;
- The suitability of materials used in construction;
- The compliance of the works with the rules of good execution practice.
On-site commissioning was carried out by ASACERT technical staff through timely quality control performed on the visible and accessible parts without the use of destructive probing. The daily inspections conducted at the construction site, carried out following a special inspection plan, had as their main objectives:
- Checking the compliance of the works with the design requirements and regulations;
- The verification of the adequacy of all materials used and their certification;
- The correspondence of the works carried out to the rules of good execution practice.
The quality control service conducted by ASACERT was timely recorded through specific Interim Inspection Reports, in which all evaluations related to the documents reviewed and audits conducted were summarized and within which reference paper and photographic documentation was also recorded. Upon completion of the inspections, appropriate Final Reports were prepared for the portion of the work analyzed, summarizing the work done by the Inspection Team and the results obtained.
RESULT
Based on the outcomes of the evaluation carried out on the design documentation received from the Client and on the in-process technical inspection and commissioning activities carried out at the construction site on a sample basis, ASACERT was able to express a positive opinion on:
- stability and mechanical strength of structural elements relative to the risk of ruin and serious structural defects;
- waterproofing of building roofs with respect to the risk of water leakage failure;
- interior floor and wall coverings of buildings with regard to the risk of detachment or breakage:
- Compliance of the work with design and regulatory requirements;
- Adequacy of materials used and execution practices followed.
