Public speaking
DESCRIPTION
The complex activities of our society and workplaces increasingly require people who can inform, persuade, motivate and inspire an audience, one’s co-workers, customers, suppliers and all those to whom one intends to address one’s communication message.
It is essential to achieve good results in communication effectiveness with different audiences, conveying a professional and positive image. Delivering a speech in front of a larger or smaller audience, however, can be a tiring and particularly challenging experience for potential speakers. Through learning methodologies and techniques, it is possible to improve speech preparation, organization of ideas, presentation, body language, use of voice, and management of emotionality related to tension, anxiety, and fear of making mistakes.
The methodological framework of the course is based on the adoption of techniques and sensibilities borrowed from theater and acting training, adapted to business and professional contexts.
Professional entertainers, perfomers are used to relating to an audience, using voice and nonverbal language on a professional level. Theater represents the archetypal form of communication: the theatrical actor must “keep” the audience with him or her for the duration of the performance, and to do this he or she must act, in addition to artistic skills, all those technical tools and sensibilities that constitute, precisely, the matter of “communication.” Given that real Public Speaking is what is done at Congresses and Conferences (one-way communication), most people understand Public Speaking as an opportunity for “communicative exposure,” as in the case of institutional presentations, project presentations, training, meeting management, interpersonal relationship (two-way communication).
The course includes significant use of active learning methods that will directly engage participants. Special emphasis will be placed on classroom discussion and sharing of experiences, thoughts and feelings.
