Po drinking water plants Turin

WORK DETAILS.

ASACERT performed the service of verification of the final design in reference to the works of modernization and functional implementation of the Po drinking water plants on behalf of Società Metropolitana Acque Torino S.p.a. (SMAT).

The river water potabilization plant operated by SMAT is recognized as a state-of-the-art benchmark in Italy and is capable of making up to 2,500 liters of water drinkable in one second. The drinking water plants are located on the left bank of the Po River in the Millefonti area, south of Turin, near the confluence with the Sangone stream; the area, at high risk of aquifer pollution, benefits from the presence of the plant, which ensures a regular flow of drinking water even in emergencies or droughts.

The project involves the modernization and functional implementation of the plant in order to remedy a number of critical issues related to the age of the works, saturation of the potential, redundancy of sections, and improvement of the quality of water produced, and involves, according to the design forecasts, the construction of a series of plant compartments suitable to replace or supplement the existing ones.

The drinking water plant is designed, as far as possible, in a modular manner so as to adapt to progressive drinking water production needs.

The total amount of the work is 83,000,000.00 euros.

SERVICE

The service of verification of the final design carried out by ASACERT on behalf of the Company Metropolitana Acque Torino S.p.a. was aimed at validating the project aimed at certifying its compliance with current regulations following design and documentary checks carried out.

Project verification was carried out on the entirety of the design documents to verify their compliance with current regulations with regard to the following purposes:

  • Completeness of design
  • Consistency of the economic framework
  • Appalability of the design solution
  • Prerequisites for the durability of the work
  • Minimization of variance and litigation risks
  • Completion of the work on schedule
  • Safety of workers and users
  • Adequacy of unit prices
  • Maintainability of works.

The specially constituted Inspection Team carried out a quality check of the project drawings and their compliance with current regulations.

In the course of the verification activity, the Interim Inspection Report containing the anomalies detected by the Inspection Team and upon completion of the service, following the changes and additions by art of the designers, ASACERT prepared the Final Inspection Report containing the outcome of the verification and attesting to the validability of the project.

RESULT

On the basis of the validation activities conducted by the ASACERT team of experts, it was possible to express a positive opinion on the outcome of the verification of the final design regarding the compliance of the design documents with the required documents and compliance with current regulations.
