The Excelsior Hotel Gallia is a high-class hotel located in the heart of Lombardy’s capital city, in a strategic location just a short walk from the Central Station. The luxury hotel houses 235 rooms, with 53 customized suites; the hotel also has a rooftop terrace where the bar restaurant is installed, as many as 12 spaces dedicated to hosting prestigious events and meetings, and a two-story spa. The Excelsior Hotel Gallia consists of five different buildings:
  • Body A: original building built in 1932, an example of eclectic architecture in the “Belle Epoque” style;
  • Body B: Pirelli Wing, built in 1948 as an extension and completion of the accommodation offered by the historic hotel building. The structure was erected on the ruins of a large concrete bunker built during World War II;
  • Body C: Hertz Garage, also insists on the bunker and is located on the corner of Galvani Street and Filzi Street for only two levels above ground;
  • Body D: building at No. 28 Via Filzi, consisting of a ground floor and four levels above ground;

SERVICE

ASACERT – QUALITALIA carried out the in-progress Technical Control service for the purpose of verifying the stability and mechanical strength of structural elements, durability, maintainability and useful life of curtain walls, windows and doors, and waterproofing of the work’s roofs. The total amount of work completed was €79,576,749. The Technical Inspection service carried out to verify the stability and mechanical strength requirements of structural elements, intended as the prevention of collapse and serious construction defects, aims to normalize the risk of partial or total ruin and the occurrence of serious defects in the structure of the work. To verify durability, maintainability and useful life of curtain walls and window frames, ASACERT – QUALITALIA provided the Technical Control service aimed at normalizing the risk of material damage to the facades resulting from accidental construction defects that could have led to total or partial detachment from the structural support. In-process Technical Control aimed at verifying the durability, maintainability, and service life requirements of the roof waterproofing made it possible to avoid the risk of defects and errors in construction that would have caused water tightness failure for the roofs of the work.

RESULT

As a result of the in-process Technical Control service provided, ASACERT – QUALITALIA was able to prepare the final Technical Control report valid for insurance purposes for the underwriting of a ten-year posthumous policy.
