CRADLE 2 CRADLE

The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program (C2C) certification, or “from cradle to cradle”, embraces the concept of circular economy and aims to preserve the biological cycles present in nature, avoiding contaminating them with non-biodegradable waste. It is the most ambitious and implementable standard ever created before that defines a product in terms of safety, circularity and environmental and social responsibility. It is a certification system that can be applied to any manufacturing sector and provides producers with a rating that allows them to create products capable of improving the quality of life and the environment.

The Cradle to Cradle is based on three key pillars:

1. Waste: Nutrition – all the materials that make up a product must then be reintroduced into the production cycles, as a source of nourishment for another project;
2. Energy: Cradle to Cradle production processes must involve the use of only green energy sources;
3. Diversity: Companies and Professionals must take into account the social and environmental implications of their activities, supporting the defense of biodiversity;

After a careful evaluation, the products obtain a certification according to one of the five levels: basic, bronze, silver, gold or platinum.

PARAMETERS

Each product is evaluated based on five main sustainability factors:

• Healthiness of materials – for each product, all the elements that compose it are identified. In the presence of wood, the forest of origin and environmental risk are also noted.
• Reuse Index – the reintroduction of materials into the production cycle is evaluated, at the end of the product’s life.
• Social sustainability – with which the ethical bases of production processes are verified.
• Water impact – parameter that verifies the correct management, quality and disposal of waste water.
• Energy impact – index which must be composed of at least 50% sustainable energy sources.
