Municipality of Porto Venere

OBJECT OF SERVICE

ASACERT carried out the service of Estimation for insurance purposes of the municipal buildings of Porto Venere, a municipality in the province of La Spezia, a small jewel of the eastern Ligurian Riviera named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 along with Cinque Terre and the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. The village, whose presence has been known since the second century A.D., developed thanks to the presence of an important harbor first as a fishing village and then as a naval base; over time the ancient castle, the two churches of St. Peter and St. Lawrence, the old town and the walls that protect it were built there. Among the most popular tourist destinations on the coast, Porto Venere had among its most passionate visitors the romantic poets Percy Shelley and George Byron, after whom one of the village’s most striking natural attractions, the Byron Grotto, is named.

SERVICE

The Municipality of Porto Venere has entrusted ASACERT to carry out the service of Estimation for insurance purposes, so the criteria for grouping the estimated values and assets have been divided according to the Policy Conditions into:
  • Building lot – buildings, connections and infrastructure
  • Match machinery – equipment, furnishings and outdoor facilities
  • Match insurable things with special conditions – electronic equipment.
The items that engaged ASACERT’s technical specialists the most were those related to the building lot: in fact, as many as 35 buildings were evaluated, divided between recently or modernly constructed structures-such as city hall, schools, sports fields-and historic complexes. State-owned properties of historical significance under appraisal include:
  • The Doria Castle, an ancient pentagonal building located on the rise from which it dominates the village, is one of the greatest examples of military architecture of the Maritime Republic of Genoa
  • The Chapter Tower, located at the entrance to the historic center, dates back to the second half of the 12th century and reaches a height of 29.8 m
  • The Mills, two cylindrical constructions that originated as watch towers and then also used in later centuries as windmills
  • The Church of St. Peter, a symbol of Porto Venere, was founded in 1198, it dominates the gulf in front of it from the rocky outcrop on which it is perched
  • The Fortress, the system of batteries and military posts found on the island of Palmaria.
