Campus Ri.MED Foundation

WORK DETAILS

ITALIANA COSTRUZIONI S.p.a has entrusted ASACERT with the task of carrying out the activity of Technical Control during construction in relation to the construction of the Center for Biotechnology and Biomedical Research of the Ri.MED Foundation in Carini, Palermo. The campus, which will be a point of reference for researchers from all over the world, consists of a plurality of buildings arranged along a generating track that orients the project from the mountain to the sea. Proceeding from north to south we find the Guest House, the two bodies of the Laboratories rising from the basement, the Parking, Administration, Auditorium and Outpatient Clinic.

The Forestry Building has a capacity of 16 rooms for a total of 32 guests. It will function as a residence for external visitors and researchers. The design includes a very flexible layout; 12 of the 16 units have the ability to communicate with the adjacent unit, meeting the need to accommodate more people.

The laboratories are structured in two bodies each consisting of No. 3 above-ground floors and No. 1 basement floor, arranged opposite each other, connected by walkways that cross the plaza and directly relate all the scientists working inside. Each of the workers’ buildings is divided into two wings interconnected by a common area used as a relaxation area, bordered by a small atrium/garden, adjacent to vertically connecting cores. Next to the relaxation area is a space reserved for research managers. Their offices are located near the laboratories and common working areas. Research managers have their own room to perform all office functions and to communicate with visiting physicians. Most of the support functions for those working in the laboratories are located on the B1 level. The basement level is reserved for the vivarium where animal model studies, diagnostic services, general services and technical facilities will be conducted.

The Auditorium, with a capacity of 200 seats, is designed as a multipurpose hall capable of ensuring both the holding of conference activities and, on special occasions, for musical events open to the public. The Administration Building houses the administrative and management offices of the CBRB. The outpatient clinic is located in the southeastern part of the site.

SERVICE

ASACERT will carry out the service of technical inspection during construction for the purpose of expressing an assessment of the stability and mechanical strength of structural elements intended to prevent total or partial ruin of the work and serious construction defects, with reference to parts of the work intended by its very nature for a long life, provided that they result from defect in construction or error in the executive design.
